This game is based on an old RPG-type board game. I never played it. I did play Mutant League Football for Sega Genesis eons ago and was looking for a similar game (since EA is doing nothing with the property).
This game is nothing like that (except for the maiming). But it is still fun once you get the hang of certain gameplay elements. You take turns moving your players (running, passing and blocking) to set up plays and score a touchdown. There's A LOT more strategy (hence the RPG element) than that but i am not going to give an in-depth analysis. I just wanted to get this game a review since a lot of people may not have heard of it. I can tell you that that doesn't speak to the game's quality, more likely the complete lack of marketing put forth by the publishers. It's shame since the mixture of fantasy fiction and fantasy football would make for a good commercial and the game has stats up the wazoo that people heavily into fantasy football could easily adjust too in the NFL off-season.
If i had to sum up a description of what you may be getting yourself into, take one part football, one part turn-based strategy and pepper in some dwarves and orcs and elves.. or whatever team race you decide to try out.
Get more detail about Blood Bowl.
