Where To Buy Obscure: The Aftermath

I've been playing this game for a few days now and am loving every minute of it. There are eight characters to control. The story mostly will follow two characters at one time you control one and you can switch between them. Each character has certain skills (strength, hacking, agility, etc) so when you need to move boxes you will need to use the character that has strength. The game will limit your access to areas that are not part of your assignment so getting lost or missing items that you need are limited which is good as getting thru areas can be challanging but you should manage to work it out before it gets too fustrating. The controls work well and the save areas are perfectly placed, the monsters are well placed and offer a good challange. There is a good range of weapons with baseball bats and golf clubs to beat the monsters, guns and shotguns to shoot them and also a stun gun that will need charged with well placed electrical panels through-out the game. For Resident evil and silent hill fans this is similar to both but is not a clone of either. Generation of Chaos Top Quality

Sorry this will be a short review. I purchased this game with the hope that it would be another slam dunk Nippon Ichi title and hopefully an improvement, or at least on par, with Dragon Force on the Sega Saturn video game system. I couldn't be more wrong. The load times in this game almost make it unplayable. I'm not even talking inbetween battles or dialogue, there are noticable loading hiccups while scrolling from one item in a menu to the next item in the menu. Maybe this wouldn't be bad if this was Street Fighter II, but it's a strategy game and there is nothing but menu surfing. The PSP is pretty bad with load time but this game is by far and away the worst I've seen.

If you can get past the miserable load times, and it's hard to do, you are rewarded with some solid gameplay with a daunting amount of complexity and depth, but the presentation is stale and boring. Dragon Force had much more charm to it. This game has plain looking maps with less than exciting battles. The battle effects themselves are pretty good looking, but something about the way the opposing forces approach eachother is like a child crashing toy cars together. Stategy games really don't need strong graphics in the end, but Nippon Ichi and the PSP certainly suggest a higher level "wow."

In summary, you must ask yourself what a FUN game really is? Every now and again you get a game like this where it would be such an incredible game if it wasn't for one major flaw that's like an itch under your skin that you can't scratch away. I'm telling you right now, this is a good game but it is by no stretch of the mind a FUN gaming experience. First of all...understand even if you get this from PSN, it's a PS1 game. If you're expecting some kind of Blu-Ray/Graphical master upgrade, you're coming in with the wrong attitude.

Secondly...if you're looking for a game that not only will keep your kids entertained but your "usually non-playing spouse", and a game that is readibly accessible to them controlwise, this is a great game.

Collecting everything is definitely a pain and extends the life of the game. Once you do get everything, there really isn't a reason to go back.

The bosses fall into the usual "pattern" type but still pose a nice challenge. As for the normal fighting, there is the usual change ups but for the most part it's pretty straightforward.

Given some of the next-gen Spyro games (which IMO have been horrible and I'm a big Spyro fan), this is not a bad way to spend $5 for a game your kids can enjoy and your spouse likely will too.

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows Decide Now

I have played a lot of spiderman games but this one has to be the worst one. The only plus side is that it's very addictive. Other than that, it was boring stale and repetitive. The enemies were very easy and the bosses were hard to the point where they were nearly impossible to beat. The cut scenes were pathetic, all they were was a bunch of Freeze frame pictures and dialog. I haven't seen cut scenes like that since the early 90's. Also, it took me about 3 days to beat. There's $30 down the tube!! The final boss was a lot easier than all the other bosses in the game. It looks like a lump of crap with tentacles. The ending was just plain BAD!!!! All it says is, "Congratulations, you saved the world!!!" No cut scene at all. I haven't seen a cut scene that bad since that Rampage game for the old school NES. Its a good game to play then ignore for a while and come back to when you have nothing else to do. But its not engaging enough to hold your attention for too long.
